The Pandolfo Advantage

Versatility and more ...

The Pandolfo breeding program is held to a high standard. We feel that all the stock in and from our program should be as correct as possible, possess eye appeal, and great dispositions. At the same time, these individuals need to have the traits of soundness, longevity, athletic ability on or off a cow, and the genetically bred-in desire to win whatever contest is laid before them ... whether it is roping a 1200 lb. mad cow in the pasture or a calf in a rodeo on a 20-foot score, whether it is a sick yearling that needs to be penned and treated or a cow horse competion at the local AQHA show, or it might be the challenge of outrunning 120 Barrel and Pole Horses at the Texas 4H finals. Whichever it is, these horse will give you all they have and sometimes a little more if you rub them just the right way.

Genetics

The genetics that have been selected are fundamentally from the South Texas, Oklahoma, and California regions. If you look at the pedigrees, you will find that the ancestors of this breeding program all originate from the best of the short track race horses of the early days. Ironically these are the same bloodlines that were also hard knocking cow ponies used on all the big ranches of that era. It is no wonder though as the ranches could only afford to have horses that they could work all day long on and still play at night and weekends.

Some of the dominant lines in this program are Cowboy 12 ,Three Bars, King Fritz, Jessie James, Gonzales Joe Bailey, JB King and the great mares Dixie Beech, Mamie Taylor  and many more. Most significantly is the fact that all the individuals in the genetic profile were proven to be some of the best of their lines. This is the fundamental reason our horses are predictable as performers as well as breeding stock. We have to give credit to all the past breeders that had integrity and vision in what they wanted a good horse to be.

Today's Breeding Program Outcross

Another goal of the Pandolfo breeding program is to provide the Quarter Horse industry with an outcross for today's breeders. We have found that the industry of today has done something unusual ... many of today's programs are saturated with the genetics of Doc Bar. This is driven by the urge to produce big-time money earners, which is fine if the criteria in the breeding programs are held to a high standard (which is in question). Lately there has been significant talk of the need for a viable outcross and that is where we feel we may help some of the breeders ... our genetic profile is 100% Doc Bar free, making it a sure fit to produce something called "hybrid vigor." In all animals, high quality can be obtained when you cross like phenotype that possess different genetic profiles. This will, more times than not, produce a high-quality offspring which is what we all strive for in this business.
